To be offended is to be off-ended, going from one end to another or going off the deep end. The Bible presents accounts where individuals could have taken offense, but did not. The Pharisees were offended by the teachings of Jesus, yet Jesus did not change truth to avoid offense. Jesus has even indicated that a time is coming when many will be offended and betray one another.
